This article by Jason Hickel in today’s Guardian argues that developing countries send trillions of dollars more to the west than the other way around. Based on report into global money flows he questions the usual development narrative and shows that trade misinvoicing and tax havens mean the world’s givers are more like takers. This piece thus adds an interesting dimension to the readings about developmental aid that we will discuss in week 1.
