Oxford 2050

The Oxford City Council has launched a consultation campaign called Oxford 2050, a large scale infrastructural development project for Oxford to occur over the next few decades and extending into 2060. The campaign is trying to encourage all members of the city to contribute feedback to what they want from this planning project as a way to unite the city into one ‘future’ direction.

One particular video that the Oxfordshire County Council has released for the road and transit developments connects well to Larkin’s argument that roads can both have technical utility for transportation and circulation but also can be ‘…an excessive fantastic object that generates desire and awe in autonomy of its technical function’ (2013, p333).
