By following a can of baked beans donated to a food bank this article discusses how the pandemic, rising food prices and ongoing austerity politics is driving many people in the UK into (food) poverty. The humble can of beaked beans (together with the similarly iconic pasta on toast?) also appeared in a food bank in I,Daniel Blake.

Food banks have become ubiquitous in British cities. They draw on the labour of volunteers and generous donations (primarily from middle-class citizens). These sites thus weave together themes we explored in week 1 and week 2.
