A Short History of the Highrise
Charlotte’s post reminded me of the fascinating interactive documentary ‘A Short History of the Highrise’ which explores the history of vertical living while focusing of a number of social issues related to it. It draws on the New York Times huge visual archives to narrate the story of mud, concrete and glass, and the last chapter is based on photos contributed by people living in highrise buildings.
We will examine many of these issues both in week 5 when we look at infrastructure and in week 8 when we discuss materials.
