Chinatown in the flood of Globalization

The birth of Chinatown accompanied the movement that Chinese began to immigrate overseas for new life. In order to keep the traditional culture and customs, they live together to face the new environment and obstacles they met. Hence, it is a proof for the early Chinese emigrants. In the early 16th century, Chinatown emerged in countries around China such as Japan, Philippine, and Korea etc. Two centuries later, Chinatown was founded in Canada and the US. In the middle of 19th century, there were Chinatowns in most major cities worldwide. Interestingly, people living there keep the traditions and keep speaking mandarin and dialects from different provinces in China. A visitor to a Chinatown could shop, study, publish and even organize the associations in a Chinese way there. So, the initial function of Chinatown is to keep the Chinese culture overseas where Chinese live and the Chinatowns can be experienced as a miniature of a China culture in those countries.
