Christmas Shoeboxes
As an individual who remembers preparing Christmas shoe boxes for my school, these articles were particularly interesting and shame inducing.
These two articles by Giles Fraser, one in 2003 and the other in 2014, raises awareness of the underlying motivations of the much loved charitable practice of giving shoe boxes around Christmas time. With a duration of over 10 years in between the articles, we learn that the Samaritan’s purse is to this day spreading their religious views through a supposed act of charity. Evidently there is no such thing as a free gift, regardless of what our 8 year old selves might have thought.
