Digital Currencies to Change the World?

There has been a lot in the news lately about virtual currencies, and I thought it would be interesting to see this as an example of what Allen and Pryke were saying in that perhaps attitudes of a digital culture has now made its way into a monetary exchange system. The article below is quite optimistic about the consequences of having a currency not centralised by the state, keeping open and permanent digital records of transactions, and perhaps a reduction in government corruption. Although other articles seem to indicate there may already be moves to attempt to regulate digital currencies.
