Gifting a Mountain
I felt that this short clip was interesting in light of last week’s conversations on gifting. To celebrate Finland’s 100 years of independence, some geologists in Norway began campaigning to gift Finland a mountain and change the international borders. What is almost more interesting than the story, however, is how the gift is presented: the Atlantic writes of it as “an unprecedented show of kindness” and “inspiring,” but also plays up the political aspects of gift giving and the inalienability of national lands.
