A film about a very special case of organ donation in the context of the Palestine/Israel conflict:
An 11 year old Palestinian boy is shot in the head by an Israeli soldier and dies soon later. His father decides, despite his grief, to donate his son’s organs to three Israeli children to send a message of peace to Israel and the world. Two years later he sets out to meet these children and their families. In spite of his sacrifice, not all of the families are able to show gratitude and bridge the gap between Palestinians and Israelis.
The film raises interesting questions about the gift of sacrifice (‘the gift that cannot be returned’, Strathern, 2012), the motivations for giving it and about whether in the context of animosity and conflict the gift can work to form relationships.
