The Law Governing ‘Every Danish Cookie’
‘Danisa Traditional Butter Cookies’ is the name of a product of an Indonesian company, which is made in Indonesia out of a ‘traditional Danish recipe’. The pattern and language on the package of the cookies to some extent resembles that of Danish buscuit producer Kelsen and has a Danish national flag on its left corner. On Chinese market, people used to consider that product as authentic Danish cookie because of the interdiscursive links with Denmark suggested by the national flag as well as its name that contains ‘Danisa’.
However that act of producing authenticity is sued by Kelsen, the Danish producer, and the result is ‘every Danish cookie, must, as a matter of law, be made in Denmark’, according to an article titled ‘Distributors Aware: Don’t Get Caught with Your Hand in the Cookie Jar’ :
