The magic of the market
Interesting New Yorker article on the relationship between the occult and contemporary financial practice. Martin Armstrong rose as a financial guru by claiming that there is a cyclic trend in the markets and its variations can be successfully predicted with the use of the highly symbolic number pi (π). He has been prosecuted in 1999 and jailed in 2006, but he still enjoys many followers. Is that magic or finance? And is there a real difference?
