Visual essays
Dear all,
Great to meet you yesterday!
I just wanted to share a few links to some visual essays online. Visual essays (also called photo essays or picture essays) can take a variety of forms, but these example should give you some idea of what you should be aiming for. The guardian example is one of journalism so of course contains no theory.
I think it’s good to include some theory so that you can show that you have understand the concepts of the key readings each week. Basically you want to visualise these concepts/topics in some form, even if it they become a little abstract. The essays might also take a particular angle on the subject, rather than trying to convey everything in 3 to 4 images.
The Cultural Anthropology example is quite nice as it is presented with readers reviews that might give you some insight into the discipline of visual anthropology, especially if it is new to you.

There are hundreds of example online, and I have just picked these two at random (I promise I am not trying to convert you all to veganism!)
Please get in touch if you have any questions and as Inge said yesterday, with each week that you do these, you will improve.
Have a lovely weekend,
Charlotte
